A Quick Trip To The Library

A quick run into town this morning to go to the library. I had books to pick up by today or they would be sent back from whence they came!

I think there is some good reading for cold winter's nights here.

 My fiction selection includes:

All of these books have been recommendations from fellow Yarn Along bloggers and I am looking forward to them.

And some non-fiction that grabbed my eye.

Are you reading anything enjoyable at the moment?

Tomorrow we are off to another town about an hour and a half drive away to look at a car for Miss Ballerina. Another child of mine will soon be on the roads! They grow up so fast. It is such a cliche, but so true.
It is a long weekend (Queen's Birthday) here as well, so Monday off for everyone.

Have a lovely weekend all!

  1. Hi Jayne. I am always reading something interesting - almost always Christian Fiction. Right now it's "All God's Children" by Anna Schmidt, set in Nazi Germany. Next it will be "Detained" by Don Brown for book club in a couple of weeks' time.

My second learner driver turns 18 in October. She probably won't quite have the hours she needs, but I think I'd rather her focus on exams at that point and sort the licence out when those are done. She tells me VCAA has already put out the end-of-year exam timetable. Talk about growing up too fast!!

By the way, we live in a town that sits between Dandenong Ranges and the Yarra Valley. We are probably considered more Dandenong Ranges I guess. I dunno…it's kinda the best of both!

    1. I have been checking out your reading list on the sidebar of your blog. Have already got some to look for! I love Christian fiction too, so I will have to keep checking back.
Luckily, my daughter doesn't turn 18 until November, so no driving (or going out!) until after exams. Yes, she had the exam timetable a few weeks ago. Crazy!
Oh my, you live in a gorgeous part of the world! My husband's family grew up in Yarra Junction, used to own the garage there. We were looking at Warburton to live for a while; hubby says too cold! My cousin's wife comes from Coldstream. Gorgeous around all that area!
      So good to 'meet' you!

    2. Would you believe that us English folk don't get a holiday for the Queen's birthday?

I am struggling with finding my niche with non fiction. I don't like being frightened, shocked in a bad way or upset when reading so tend to stick to romance but I am ever so bored of reading books with no substance. I am looking forward to picking up from the library "A Year of Living Danishly" by Helen Russell. Apparently the Danes are the happiest in the world. I'm interested in, and have a soft spot for, how the Scandinavian countries thrive and survive.

    3. Really, no holiday?! Did you ever have one and it has been removed? There has been talk of getting rid of it, but no government wants to be the one to take away a public holiday!
I am a sucker for those 'Year of Living' books. I don't know why, I just love them. I am going to look for that book at my library as the Scandinavian countries sure seem to be the most together Western countries.
One of my favourite books is an Australian one called Living The Good Life by Linda Cockburn. They decided to go for a year without buying any groceries, so just what they could grown, make or barter. Really great read.

    4. I'll see if I can get Living The Good Life at my library in the morning. Thank you for the recommendation.

I don't recall ever having a holiday for the Queen's birthday. She was actually born on 21st April but her public birthday was brought into the summer months so there would be a better chance of good weather for Trooping the Colour. The tradition seems to stem from a time when the Monarch would be born in the winter, wetter months. Enjoy your holiday!

    5. I was explaining that to my daughter yesterday! For us, the Queen's Birthday long weekend is always the opening of the ski season. Sometimes there is no snow at all and people just go for the party. But this year there was tons of snow - lots of lifts were open.
I hope you can find the book - might be hard as it is Australian. But it is a really great read. I found it really inspiring - funny too.

  2. Thank God for long weekends. I hope you find a good car for your daughter, only six more months and my eldest will be getting her L's. We visit the library every 2 weeks. I'm usually too busy making sure the littlies are under control and everyone gets something suitable to read to borrow for myself. However this week they had a display up and a book on aprons caught my eye. I've been meaning to make some for ages so hopefully it'll be good inspiration. I was also in the post office Friday buying a craft book as a birthday gift for a family friend and ended up buying a DK book on how to crochet. So hopefully I'll be crocheting soon which will be very different from sewing or knitting. (I've finally changed my name from Debbie to Therese).

    1. Hi Therese! Me too with the library - I never get to choose for myself that is why I use the hold system. The ones I have chosen are all there waiting for me! I love making aprons - they are so simple and such fun to embellish. The post office has some great books at the moment. I saw two Women's Weekly cookbooks in there, so I borrowed them from the library. They are both great and are on my Christmas wish list! Same with me - great with sewing and knitting, but have yet to learn to crochet. I really want to as some of the toys in crochet are gorgeous! Good luck with it all.

    3. I saw the Woman's Weekly cook books as well. Think I may just have to buy it as it would act as a good base to introduce cooking to my 10 year old. Yes I have started trying to design a blog. Fiddling around to get the background pic etc right. I'm so hopeless when it comes to computer stuff. I also made gingerbread men with my 5 year old last night and thought I'd document with a few photos for future use. Boy is it hard to photograph at the appropriate times whilst trying to instruct a child how to bake. Let's hope I get my act together soon.

    4. I find myself doing that - thinking that would make a great photo but don't have the camera on me at the time. I miss most of what happens, but I figure I'm not going to interrupt them to pose for photos! The header photo is lovely.
